Greetings!
This issue focuses on minerals our bodies require to stay healthy, how HealthWise can fit into that, and special offerings through our website.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for your interest in HealthWise Gourmet Coffees!

There are 17 Essential Minerals required to support human biochemical processes by playing roles in cell structure and function.
And they are…..
1. Calcium: For muscle, heart and digestive system health; builds bone; neutralizes acidity.
2. Chloride: For production of hydochoric acid in stomach.
3. Cobalt: For normal functioning of brain and nervous system.
4. Copper: For component of many enzymes.
5. Fluorine: For formation of tooth enamel.
6. Iodine: For biosynthesis of thyroxine.
7. Iron: For many proteins and enzymes.
8. Magnesium: For processing Adenosine-5′-triphosphate (ATP) is a multifunctional nucleotide, and for bones.
9. Manganese: For being a co-factor in enzyme functions.
10. Molybdenum: For the enzyme xanthine oxidase.
11. Nickel: For Urease, an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia.
12. Phosphorus: A component of bones.
13. Potassium: A systemic electrolyte.
14. Selenium: Essential to activity of antioxidant enzymes.
15. Sodium: A systemic electrolyte.
16. Sulfur: For certain amino acids.
17. Zinc: Required for several enzymes.
The important point here is that every one of these essential minerals are present in HealthWise Gourmet Coffees — roasted through an all-natural process.
As it states in the “Healthy Coffee” tab of our website, HealthWise Gourmet Coffees gives you the following Recommended Daily Allowance of these minerals, based on a 16-ounce mug of coffee:
Calcium — 16.4%
Potassium — 28.8%
Iron — 19.2%
Zinc — 6.4%

If you suffer from acid reflux and take pills for it, this should be of interest to you.
According to a study published in the August 12, 2008 edition of the Canadian Medical Association Journal, long term exposure to proton pump inhibitors (PPI) is associated with osteoporosis-related fractures. Commonly known PPIs are Nexium, Prevacid, Prilosec and Protonix.
Doctors studied 60,000 people aged 50 and older who had experienced hip fractures. For people who had been taking acid reflux pills for less than five years, the study found no association with hip fractures. However, at five years of pill usage, the doctors found an association with hip fractures, and a much larger association with seven or more years’ usage of acid reflux pills.
The report indicated that PPIs are believed to inhibit the absorption of calcium in the small intestines, and over time can lead to bone density loss. The published report indicated “Further study is required to determine whether there are pharmacologic strategies, including the use of calcium supplementation that can mitigate the risk of fracture”.
HealthWise Gourmet Coffees are high in mineral content, including calcium; and as stated above, 16.4% of your RDA of calcium comes with a 16-ounce mug of HealthWise.
On a related note regarding caffeine and bones, a 2002 review of various studies reported by Professor R.P Heaney of Creighton University reported there is no evidence that caffeine has any harmful effects on the calcium economy of people.
