Free Shipping for Coffee Club Members

HealthWise has implemented a Free Shipping program for its Coffee Club members.  The new program will provide additional savings to members.

The program is now available for all HealthWise low acid 100% Colombian Supremo coffees.

The program works like this: Send an email to coffeeclub@healthwisegc.com and someone will be in touch to get you started.  Shipments are typically made on the nearest business day to the 1st and 15th of the month; however we can accomodate whichever cycle you prefer, e.g. every two weeks or so.  There is a minimum order of two units requested for each shipment.

There is no requirement to continue purchasing — you can resign from the program at any time.

More information is available on the link found on the Blog/Newsletter tab on our website.

Please consider this method of receiving what we consider to be the best coffee on the planet!

MAGNESIUM

This is part of a series that addresses Essential Minerals found in HealthWise Coffees — what they are, what do they do, and what happens if you don’t get enough of them.  As mentioned in the August 2008 Newsletter, there are 17 minerals that have been classified as Essential Minerals….and like no other coffee, HealthWise has them all, and in an all natural process.

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and is essential to good health. Approximately 50% of total body magnesium is found in bone. The other half is found predominantly inside cells of body tissues and organs.  Magnesium is essential for the health of our cells and protects against the toxic chemicals we come in contact with.

Green vegetables such as spinach are good sources of magnesium because the center of the chlorophyll molecule (which gives green vegetables their color) contains magnesium. Some legumes (beans and peas), nuts and seeds, and whole, unrefined grains are also good sources of magnesium. Refined grains are generally low in magnesium. When white flour is refined and processed, the magnesium-rich germ and bran are removed. Bread made from whole grain wheat flour provides more magnesium than bread made from white refined flour. Tap water can be a source of magnesium, but the amount varies according to the water supply. Water that naturally contains more minerals is described as “hard”. “Hard” water contains more magnesium than “soft” water.

Some estimates have shown that perhaps 80% of Americans are deficient in their intake of magnesium.

So what happens if one is defiecient in magnesium?  There are a whole host of potential downsides from magnesium deficiency, including an association with higher risk of cancer, and common conditions such as mitral valve prolapse, migraines, attention deficit disorder, fibromyalgia, asthma and allergies have all been linked to magnesium deficiency.

Magnesium is one of the 17 Essential Minerals that are present in a cup of HealthWise Gourmet Coffee, and the point we make on our website is that if you are going to drink a coffee, why not drink a coffee that is not only delicious….but good for you!

Coffee Filters and Cholesterol

Please be sure to use a paper coffee filter when brewing your coffee.

Coffee contains a substance called cafestol that is a potent stimulator of LDL cholesterol levels. Cafestol is found in the oily fraction of coffee, and when you brew coffee with a paper filter, the cafestol gets left behind in the filter. Other methods of coffee preparation, such as the boiled coffee common in Scandinavian countries, French press coffee, or Turkish coffee, are much higher in cafestol.

So for people who have high cholesterol levels or who want to prevent having high cholesterol levels, it is better to choose paper filtered coffee or instant coffee, since they have much lower levels of cafestol than boiled or French press coffee. Espresso is somewhere in the middle; it has less cafestol than boiled or French press coffee, but more than paper filtered coffee.

Blog and Newsletter

At HealthWise Gourmet Coffees, we are attempting to convey two things:

  1. To pass along to you the latest information about the Health Aspects of Coffee.
    • If you visit our Blog, you will find the latest information that we gathered from around the World about what researchers have learned about coffee, and how it affects our health.
  2. To convey to you information about HealthWise Gourmet Coffees, and why we think HealthWise should be your choice for what you consume every morning.

Please know that HealthWise Gourmet Coffees are not beverages…they are like the 100% Colombian you may get from Starbucks or the multitude of coffees on the market…HealthWise is just better.
